Net Width Diagram
Applying 17m Net (3m row spacing)
a) The Canopy System
14 rows of 5 row canopy cover
b) Throw Over
16 rows of 4 row to the groundThe above diagrams show the path of a tractor applying 17 meter wide net over;
a) Five rows joined overhead to form a canopy, and
b) Four rows going to the ground.The relative benefits of single, double or five row net applications depend partly on row lengths. This is because the net is not cut but run around the headlands, therefore the longer the row length the less net is used making fewer turns at the ends of the rows.
Keeping this in mind the percentage cost of the different methods (assuming 6m single row application = 100) are as follows;
Six meter single row 100 Eleven meter double row 91 saving 9% Eleven meter canopy three row 66 saving 34% Seventeen meter four row 75 saving 25% Seventeen meter canopy five row 60 saving 40% Please be aware that these figures are a guide that has been estimated using 150 meter row lengths and three meter spacing. When making the decision on net widths you should keep in mind the recurrent application costs including labor, machine and tractor costs.
