Application & Retrieval for smaller sized vineyards
Application and retrieval of netting is simplicity itself and does not require any major infrastructure investment. All you need is an elevated hoop and a length of plastic pipe - see illustrations.
Nets can be applied from a tractor moving down a row feeding the net through the hoop with one person on each side stretching out the mesh. Center and edge marks on the net make centering the net easier. (see above illustration)
Removal is the reverse of this procedure using the pipe to lead the net to its bag on the back of the tractor (illustrated above).
Cover one row or several? Single row applications are simplest, but multiple row applications can reduce netting and labour costs significantly. This means that the net only goes to the ground at the edges of the block reducing the amount of net needed and improving access. Many jobs can be done underneath the nets using tractors fitted with protective poly pipes. Such systems are also useful for table grape growers who need to pick every few days.
